Staging Web Sites

So what is staging when it comes to websites?

It is the idea that you want to publish/change things (post, pages, or even try out plugins and themes) to your site, but you’re not sure how it’s going to work out. You make changes in your “staging” site, THEN, if things are working perfectly, you then sync the changes to your “live” site.

I’ve created this page on the staging site and then I will sync it. At that point the two sites (staging and live) will be identical.

I have two sites – https://social.cirtunf.org/ and https://social.cirtunf.org/

The staging site was created by using the Clone Wizard in the cPanel using Installatron. When you clone your site, you clone it to a different subdomain (wordpressstage) and you select the checkbox to “Create a Staging Site?”

Here is a support document from Reclaim Hosting about Staging Sites using Clone Tool.

Once that is done you have a site that you can sync to. Notice in the screenshot below that the staging site has the hashmarks to indicate that it is not the live site:

Live site (top) and staging site (bottom)

Now we make our changes in the staging site and when things are working how we want them to, we will click the sync button associated with the live site.
